Megan corey’s story
Megan was born into a family of teachers, and all her siblings became teachers, but she wanted to do something different. She didn’t know what she wanted to do, but she knew she wanted to be successful after attending college.
Her job experience was as a recruiter/manager in the healthcare industry, and then she worked for the federal government. In her government job, she quickly climbed the ladder. She liked her government job and liked her colleagues, as well as her many mentors. She had a total of 15 years of experience in these jobs.
Still she knew she wasn’t happy but didn’t know why. It took her a long time to figure out that she was constantly stressed and couldn’t continue in her government job. She realized she had to try something different. Her need to be in control and her fighter instincts led her to entertain the thought of quitting her job. She did a lot of soul searching, and decided she was called to help people in some way to be less stressed. Her realization she had a passion for health and wellness started her quest for training courses and certifications in this area. She decided her future as an entrepreneur would be as a health coach.
For a year, she continued to work in her 9 to 5 job and work on her business before and after work during the week, and often on the weekends. She grew professionally and built her business during that year. However, she felt she was missing out on family time especially with her children, but still managed to keep her family as her top priority. Starting her own business brought out her creativity and opened her mind to many business ideas. During this year, she also did a lot of personal developmental work.
In order to build her business, she learned to reach out to businesses for guidance and mentorship. She then started looking for needs of businesses and individuals who wanted a health coach. She even took on some private clients during this year and really enjoyed watching their progress. Her financial goal was to bring in enough money to at least cover personal and business expenses before quitting her 9 to 5 job. She also found a way to use her professional experience with her new health and wellness company. In the process of meeting her financial goal and incorporating her professional experience, she started a business and then another business.
She and her husband figured out their finances, and how they could deal with only one paycheck if necessary. The planning helped her feel prepared for her future after quitting her 9 to 5 job. Finally, she quit her 9 to 5 job and decided to keep going full steam ahead to build her business. She learned that she had to be flexible and able to learn from her mistakes in order to build a successful business.
She started her business in 2018 and is still very happy being an entrepreneur. Her love of being her own boss and being able to set her own schedule keeps her motivated and helps her continue to build her business year to year. She is happy that she started her business when she did and didn’t wait any longer to take the leap out of her 9 to 5 job.
