Female Athletes Are Excellent Founders

According to research, the Team Captain of a sports team is one of the best candidates to run a business smoothly. Through research it has been shown how athletes excel in entrepreneurship.

To cite a recent Fortune Article – ‘The link between female leadership and competitive sports has been well-documented. A 2015 study of 400 female C-suite executives conducted by espnW and EY found an undeniable correlation between athletic and business success: more than half (52%) of the c-level execs surveyed played sport at the university level, compared to 39% of women at other management levels. That same study reports that 80% of female Fortune 500 executives played competitive sports at one point in their lives.

Of the 31 MPWs who responded to Fortune‘s query, 20 (65%) played sports competitively in either high school or college; sometimes both. The most popular sport was a three-way tie between swimming, basketball, and tennis (five women each).’

Anyone who has been involved in competitive sports long term has the innate ability to apply their skills to entrepreneurship for success. Having a champion athletes mindset is not reserved for only athletes, by adopting these strategies, everyone will greatly beneficial in entrepreneurship and having a successful company.

We will be featuring top athlete founders in this article who connect fully with these strategies and embody them in their lives. Athletes embody waking up everyday with a purpose, and strive for success.

As our founder, Allison Ramsey, was also a college athlete, she embodies these strategies and we are super excited to feature more athlete founders in this article.

We are going to go through the top strategies to transition to an athlete mindset bringing more success to your company, business, and entrepreneurship journey

They Train Hard

Success, as we have heard, is when perseverance meets hard work. Athletes need to put in countless hours of training to hone in on their abilities and skills. The mindset is training to win and entrepreneurs must train to win too.

Athletes often have setbacks or injuries and they still make comebacks of epic proportions. The difference is that they view their setbacks as opportunities as areas of growth to come back stronger.

If you ask our Founder, Allison’s Family, they’ll tell you the countless hours she spent on her crafts. They may describe her tendencies often as ‘overly intense’. As athletes are often described. Often entrepreneurs are completely obsessed with their craft.

We must become obsessed with honing in on our abilities.

Have Coaches / Mentors

One of the first steps when launching a business needs to be to find a mentor or a coach. There is no need to aim to do this all alone. To learn from people whom have done this before and be a part of something bigger.

In the Empire Life Programs, developed by Empire Life, we guide entrepreneurs in launching and scaling their online businesses. Many programs are capable of fast tracking your success. As a first time founder, making mistakes will be inevitable. You don’t want to go into it blind or alone. Founders can easily avoid missteps by asking for support and getting the support they need.

It is a must to have the support of fellow founders and a mentor or team of mentors to guide you. Athletes understand a great coach will display their blind spots to them and allow space for improvement.

There Really is No True Competition Besides Ourselves

When a company focuses too much on the competition they will lose sight of the goals and might totally sink their ship. Imagine a rowing team, looking to the left or the right in the race, they would sink their boat.

It is important to understand the landscape of your competitors, your company’s competitive advantage, your personal strengths capable to take you far, and what other companies are doing to succeed.

When our Founder, Allison, was prepping for a game in high school and college. She will go with a few of her teammates, or sometimes alone, to watch the competitor teams play. She will study each player and take notes. The purpose was to then be able to communicate effectively to her team, and lead her team to win. When it comes to game time or time to support clients, all the focus is on the court, on the goals of the company and client.
